CynergisTek CEO and OPRS CIO to Present at CHIMA Long Term Care 2011 Spring Meeting

CynergisTek, a leading provider of IT security solutions for healthcare organizations, today announced its CEO, Mac McMillan, and Joyce Miller-Evans, CIO of Ohio Presbyterian Retirement Services (OPRS), the largest not-for-profit provider of continuing care retirement communities and services in Ohio, will present at the Colorado Health Information Management Association’s (CHIMA), Long Term Care Spring Meeting. CHIMA is an affiliate of the America Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

In this presentation titled,”Security Boot Camp for LTC HIM: Telling the Ohio Presbyterian Retirement Services Story, A Long Term Care and Community Based Services Data Security Journey,” Miller-Evans will discuss how she led her organization to take a strategic approach to improving its IT security with the advice and assistance of McMillan and other CynergisTek security experts. Miller-Evans and McMillan will outline specific security challenges unique to the long-term care environment and describe the benefits of conducting neutral, third-party security evaluations and risk assessments in order to determine an appropriate security strategy and remediation path. Together they will show how this approach allowed OPRS to achieve its goals and transform the culture of the  organization without disrupting operations.WHO:
Mac McMillan, CISM and President/CEO of CynergisTek and Chair of the HIMSS Privacy and Security Steering Committee, has over 30 years of combined intelligence, risk management and security consulting experience. McMillan has worked in the healthcare industry since his retirement from the federal government in 2000 and has contributed to HFMA, HCCA, AHIA, AHIMA and HIMSS and is the former Chair of the HIMSS Information Systems Security Working Group. In 2009 he joined the HIMSS Privacy and Security Steering Committee and was selected as its Chair in 2010.Joyce Miller-Evans, has been the Vice President and Chief Information Officer of homecare and hospice at the Ohio Presbyterian Retirement Services since August,2004. Previously, Miller- Evans was the CIO for University Hospitals Health System/Charity Sisters of St. Augustine Health System in Cleveland, OH. She received a BS in Nursing from The Ohio State University and an MBA from the University of Dayton. Miller-Evans worked previously at the Ohio State University Health System and SMS a healthcare software vendor now owned by Siemens.
